CONCORD, N.C. -- Jeff Purvis, who has been in intensive care at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa. since being injured last Sunday in the NASCAR Busch Series race at Nazareth Speedway, will be released Friday afternoon.
Team spokesman Dennis Punch said Purvis will be flown to an undisclosed rehabilitation center where he will begin treatment for head, neck and leg injuries suffered in the accident. Punch said Purvis' condition continues to improve.
Punch also said that Purvis has talked with Brewco Motorsports president Todd Wilkerson Friday, and questioned how the No. 37 team performed in practice earlier in the day.
Purvis was injured after his motor failed and Greg Biffle got into the fluid dropped on the track. Unable to steer his Ford, Biffle collided with Purvis, knocking both drivers unconscious and sending Purvis to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
Kevin Lepage is subsituting for Purvis in Saturday's Carquest 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, but team owner Clarence Brewer, Jr., said that's strictly a one-race deal at this time.
Punch said an announcement will be made early next week concerning future plans off the No. 37 Timberwolf team.
